How to make a Scalene Neck wrap

This is one of my favourite wraps to wear.

It's made using Rowan 'Summer Tweed' - 70%silk/30% cotton mix.

My friend Lee is modelling it for me.

This wrap is shaped like a triangle

(scalene - means all 3 sides are different).

So the widest part goes over one shoulder, then flip the tip over your shoulder.

I put a long tassel on each point.

I like to use big needles with yarn that is thinner than recommended  because the fabric then looks lacy with little effort.

I often get distracted, so lose my place & I can't follow patterns anyway.

It was fun to make & would be good for beginners as well.
You can also use this as a head & neck wrap if you get cold.

Here is how to make it.

What you need:

  • Pair of 8mm circular knitting needles

  • At least 3 or 4 balls of yarn  - you will need some for the tassels

(It really depends on your tension - I'm a loose knitter)

  • I used Rowan Summer Tweed - colour 'STORM' - which is a 10ply (worsted or medium)

  • Tapestry needle to weave in ends.

How to make it:

Note; decrease in the second stitch not the first - you get a much better finish on the edge

  1. Cast on 60 stitches.

  2. Knit one whole row.

  3. Knit one, then knit two together, then complete the row.

  4. Turn the work & knit the next row without decreasing.

  5. Follow this pattern until you only have one stitch left

Snip off the yarn & slip the end piece through the last stitch to tie it off.

Tassels

To make the tassels the same length as in the sample, I wrapped the yarn around a tissue box.

  1. Wrap around the box approx 6 times then cut one side of the loop bundle.

  2. Use the crochet hook to pull the wool through the tips of the scarf / wrap.

  3. Take half of the lengths & loop through the end of the scarf.
